Bi group coffee group meeting

I went to Bicon in 2008, this is a weekend event for members of the bisexual community and at that event I had a lovely time and meet some wonderful people.

Although my registration and accommodation fees were paid for by Unison (I was running a workshop there) I did note that the fees were very reasonable as the event is held on a university campus.

Any future plans were then delayed as the first symptoms of my illness had started.

At the event I had subscribed to a couple of new meet ups.

Saturday 1st May 2010

With the improvement in my health I now felt it was time to restart my social life and on the message boards had seen that a meeting was for Saturday and I thought “it's time to enter society again”

The meeting is held in a cafe in Spitafields market, this is a five minute walk from Liverpool street station, from my flat it is a 15 minute walk to Southend Victoria railway station then little 60 minute journey to Liverpool street at a reasonable price (£13.50 for a one day travel card, which gives you access to all parts of the London underground.

Thank you British rail

As I went to buy ticket, the kind ticket man said, excuse me love but there is rail works this weekend and a bus service between Romford and Liverpool street (this would have put another 45 minutes onto my journey).

Luckily enough we have to train stations and routes into London, so as it was a lovely sunny day, I was not the slightest bit stressed and took the short 10 minute walk to Southend Victoria, got off at Fenchurch street, a short walk to Tower Hill tube station and 2 stops to Liverpool street (whew) not as hectic as it sounds!

I arrived in time (the meeting is between 3-6) but very flexible

I soon got chatting to people and had a lovely time.

A change in my social status

Something I have noticed over the last year and something a trans-woman friend of mine told me would happen.

I am very proud of my status as a trans woman, and when I run my training workshops I do so as an out and proud trans-woman.

However I now find there is no reason to tell anyone I suppose I am 95 “stealth” I think also the umbrella word “transgender does get on my nerves a bit.

I just introduced myself as Lucy a bisexual woman and now no one knows im trans unless I tell them (just as I like it).

I am going to see if Unison want me to take some leaflets to Bicon 2010 and also have lots of fun!

I had started the day by setting off at 12:30 and got home at 8:30pm and I felt great only a tiny bit tired, so my confidence in my ability to get about again is growing and growing.

On Wednesday Lisa is paying me a visit, so it will be nice to see her again.
